Promising Young Writers 2009
A Writing Contest for Eighth Graders

(Winners Announced in May 2010)

The NCTE Promising Young Writers Program emphasizes the importance of writing skills among eighth-grade writers. The Kentucky Council of Teachers of English believes Kentucky has many fine writers who deserve national recognition. Therefore, KCTE will forward the contest entry fee for each teacher who assures that the completed NCTE nomination form (which requires student signature) for the best writer in the class is postmarked by 26 January 2009 and mailed to

Eligibility

Only students enrolled in the eighth grade in the academic year 2009-2009 may be nominated for 2009 awards.

A current official nomination blank for each nominee must be submitted to NCTE, postmarked no later than 26 January 2009.

NCTE provides the nomination form and details the role the eighth-grade teacher plays in submitting the appropriate writing in the Promising Young Writers Brochure found at http://www.ncte.org/about/awards/student/pyw/
